I have been told of a time. A time before. A world now alien to our way of life. We are now so accustomed to this harsh existence It’s strange to imagine anything other than this. Scavenging amongst the ruins, fighting to survive. There were once places we could find shelter and provisions. Places you might have called home. But it was all taken away from us by another wave. It was relentless, it’s a miracle that any of us survived. Perhaps there is some higher purpose. Who knows? Reality is a bitch. But it is that stark reality that keeps me focused on the task ahead, so many now depend on me . It has become my strength and it kept me going through all the dark years. My determination not diminished. At least that was until…………until Everything fell into silence… Now we must move on… Into the deep horizon, the faded sky. Sand in our mouths but hope in our hearts ……..for a better day. Hope is all we have………… but hope won’t feed us. We must find a better place where we can live again, not just survive. I dig deep to push back the feelings of doubt. We have come so far. We leave no one behind, we have to do that. We have all lost so much, we cannot lose our last strand of humanity, for then we are truly lost. The wind of deserts howl and try to defeat us. But somehow we keep going. Somehow. We look North because they say there is sanctuary. Perhaps it will be like the times of old. Those days told to me in stories and artefacts . So somehow, we all keep going..
